Part of the Hei Tiki Provenance collection this painting is draws upon the fact that the rat in Chinese mythology was the first to cross the finish line and although different, it also is similiar to the fact that the Hei Tiki is one of the earliest creations forms in Māori cosmology. It is also a quiet nod to the artist who's Chinese zodiac sign falls under the year of the rat. In making this work both Māori and Chinese cosmologies entwine.
