This painting is part of the Hei Tiki Putiputi series and was completed during lockdown. Here the central figure of a tiki is found in a ethereal garden landscape, reminiscient of the traditional 'Garden of Eden' but blending Māori iconography and symbols. The painting offers a glimpse into how the artist weaves together his cosmologies within a strong and distinctively New Zealand context. The flowers are all from the kanuka and manuka families and are all well known for their healing and restorative properties.
